History of the Company

Maths for More is a mathematical software company based in Barcelona (Spain) founded in 1999 by a professor and former students of the Technical University of Catalonia.

The company was created to commercially exploit a research project in Computer Algebra. A group of mathematics students coordinated by Sebastià Xambó, full professor at the Technical University of Catalonia, developed a next generation calculation platform. The company start-up was accompanied by the Programa Innova, the university unit to support start-ups, spin-offs and business projects developed by students and teachers.

Today the company is managed by Ramon Eixarch and Daniel Marquès, co-founders of the company.

Since 1999 the company has developed WIRIS, a software suite of tools for mathematics education. The most relevant member of this family is WIRIS CAS, a multilingual on-line platform for mathematics calculation and contents.

Today WIRIS CAS is used by thousands of students and teachers in Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Italy, Luxembourg and Spain. The biggest WIRIS CAS community is Catalan speaking since the first two WIRIS servers where in Catalan. Today there are WIRIS servers in English, French, Spanish and up to ten languages.

Since 2004 the company has started to cooperate with the OpenMath research groups in European funded projects as LeActiveMath or WebALT to develop the next generation learning tools for mathematics education.
